Squirrel Hill Health Center Receives Stimulus Funding to Open New Dental Clinic in 2010 The White House announced on December 9, 2009, that the Squirrel Hill Health Center was going to receive a stimulus grant of $792,700. This award was one of only 80 nationally; all were awarded to community health centers to build, expand or renovate space to see more patients. The award, through HRSA's Facilities Investment Program, will be used to renovate a new site for a dental center. The center will provide general dentistry services in a four chair dental suite. SHHC expects the center to be open by the end of 2010 and to be able to provide oral health care to area residents who have difficulty finding dental services, particularly those without health insurance and with Medicaid. The notice came as part of President Obama's announcement that nearly $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funding has been awarded to support major construction and renovation projects at 85 community health centers nationwide. Nationally, the awards are expected to stimulate jobs in the construction and healthcare sectors, as well as expand care to more than half a million additional patients in underserved communities. |
