| The
mission of the Squirrel Hill Health Center is to provide
patient-driven, high quality, comprehensive, evidence-based primary and
preventive healthcare and social services, with a special concern for
patients' religious beliefs, race, national origin, primary language,
age, sex, and disability status and without regard for their ability to
pay. SHHC applies the values and principles of the Perfecting Patient
Care System to serve each patient with dignity and respect in a
culturally appropriate manner and to continually assess, evaluate, and
improve access to and the quality of the services it provides. SHHC
strives to make its service area the healthiest community in the nation
by assuring access to comprehensive health and social services across
the full continuum of care.
We have established the SHHC with three important goals in mind:
1. To provide all patients with access to high quality care.
We provide quality, primary healthcare at the center, comparable to
care given by any of the major area providers. We are committed to
providing the highest standard of care at the lowest cost with the
highest patient satisfaction. SHHC serves patients with or without insurance.
We consider it our mission to provide equal access to quality care
regardless of factors such as ability to pay, race, ethnicity,
religious affiliation, age, or gender.
2. To exemplify the principles of the Perfecting Patient Care (PPC) system.
The PPC system is a model for healthcare improvement created by the
Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative. This model provides an effective
and innovative approach to reducing waste and medical errors while
allowing front-line medical workers to better address patient needs.
All of the healthcare workers at the SHHC are trained according to this
system, and we collect and review data to ensure that we are constantly
improving our outcomes and bettering the environment for both patients
and their caregivers.
3. To provide culturally competent care.
Cultural and language barriers prevent many in our community from
having access to the best care and prevent doctors from communicating
effectively with their patients. Our on-site translation allows
patients to maintain confidentiality of care with their doctors and to
access care quickly. Non-traditional hours on Sunday morning and
Tuesday evening hours also enhance access to care.
